Projection: first four out

Butler’s résumé is built around a couple of eye‑opening victories and a handful of damaging defeats, with neutral wins over South Carolina and Virginia and a road victory at Seton Hall showing the team can beat strong opponents away from home, but heavy losses at Connecticut and at St. John’s and a lopsided home defeat to Villanova undercut those signature moments. Nonconference blowouts over Southern Indiana, IUPUI and Chicago State add little weight while competitive setbacks at SMU and Creighton suggest Butler is often close without consistently finishing games. The remaining slate gives clear ways to improve with home dates against Seton Hall and Creighton and a home meeting with Connecticut, while trips to Providence, Marquette and Villanova are difficult but offer résumé‑defining chances. Overall Butler has enough quality to be in the conversation yet still needs meaningful wins away from home or on neutral courts to erase the damage from its worst losses.
