Projection: need to automatically qualify

NC A&T’s body of work is defined by clear positives and glaring liabilities. The Aggies have shown they can close out games against lesser opponents, exemplified by the road victory at Morgan State and the home win over South Carolina State, but those moments are offset by heavy road defeats at South Carolina, Davidson and Charlotte that raise serious questions about how they fare against quality competition away from home. There are no signature nonconference scalps to bolster the resume and upcoming neutral-site games against Howard and Hampton along with road dates at UNC Greensboro, William & Mary and UNC Wilmington are the obvious opportunities to change the narrative. The Coastal slate is road-heavy and wins away from home against established league rivals will be the only meaningful way to erase the damage from earlier losses. Until those wins appear, the profile looks like a team that needs to secure its conference’s automatic berth rather than rely on a resume strong enough for an at-large nod.
