Projection: need to automatically qualify
NC A&T looks like a team that will have to secure the Coastal crown to reach the field because the résumé offers few marquee wins and is hampered by damaging road and neutral setbacks. Their best moments — a home triumph over Hofstra, a win at UNC Greensboro and a home victory over Towson — show the program can beat respectable conference foes, but those are eclipsed by a heavy loss at South Carolina, a neutral-site setback to Howard and a string of road defeats at Davidson, Charlotte, William & Mary, Elon and Hampton that undermine at-large appeal. There are still clear chances to improve with road tests at Monmouth, Drexel and College of Charleston and home opportunities against Campbell, Hampton and College of Charleston, yet without a standout nonconference scalp the most reliable route to the NCAA Tournament runs through the conference tournament.
