Projection: likely out

Richmond’s standing makes sense because the resume is a patchwork of a few meaningful road victories at Belmont and at St. Bonaventure and a neutral win over Charlotte set against a soft nonconference slate that includes wins over VMI and Gardner-Webb that do little to impress, and because those brighter moments are diluted by damaging setbacks such as a neutral loss to Furman and a heavy defeat at Saint Louis; home losses to Saint Joseph’s and Rhode Island and losses to George Washington at home and on the road further undercut the profile, and tight defeats at Elon and in other home games show the team has been competitive but failed to close the kind of wins that change committee perception, while upcoming opportunities at Davidson and at Rhode Island, a meeting with VCU, and a road date at Loyola-Chicago are the clear avenues to repair the resume if Richmond can produce road or neutral victories to offset the earlier blemishes.
