Projection: need to automatically qualify

William & Mary's resume reads like a team that will be depending on an automatic bid because its best work has come in neutral-site wins over UTEP and Abilene Christian and road victories at Bowling Green and Duquesne that prove it can win away, but that thread is undone by a heavy loss at St John's and a string of damaging road setbacks at George Washington, College of Charleston, Monmouth and Drexel that undercut its résumé. The body of work is built against mid-major opposition rather than a marquee scalp, so the selection committee will respect the neutral and true road successes while remaining skeptical of the bad losses and the absence of a high-end signature win. The remaining conference stretch, with trips to UNC Wilmington, Hampton, Northeastern and Campbell and home chances against Elon, Campbell and Northeastern, offers clear opportunities to fix the damage, yet until those are seized the cleanest path for the Tribe to the field is through the automatic qualifier.
